bareMinerals 5 in 1 BB Advanced Performance Cream Eyeshadow - Review and Swatch

This is a product that has me totally baffled. I am not sure what the "5" benefits of this product actually are. I have the shade Barely Nude and got this free travel sized tube from either Sephora as a sample or with rewards points or from bareMinerals direct. Can't remember. From what I have read online, this product is supposed to target fine lines and smooth out your lids, act as a primer, brighten and provide skincare ingredients and offer SPF 15. Oh and it's supposed to last for 12 hours. Ahem....

Before I get into the nitty gritty, I will start off by saying that I don't think a cream eyeshadow or eyeshadow primer should have SPF in it. SPF tends to be irritating in delicate areas and I see a few people online have had that experience with this product. The idea of the SPF makes me nervous and I think I overlooked that fact while I tested this out for a few days.

I have not worn this product on its own and it says you can. The colour I have, Barely Nude, is just that, nude, and I don't think it would really do anything for my lids from an attractiveness perspective. When you apply it, I find it quite wet and drippy. You have to blend it quickly. It's thin and nothing to look at. I don't see how it is brightening. Maybe with repeated use?

As a primer, it just blows and doesn't deliver. If you put a powder eyeshadow on over it, it's a creasy, greasy hot mess within 3-4 hours and your eyeshadow is practically sitting in your eyelashes! When I have applied a cream shadow on top of it and then a powder eyeshadow, it holds up much better, maybe 7-8 hours. However, your crease has this weird wet slick look to it that is almost crusty. The eyeshadow is darker looking than the rest of your lid in that area even when you are only wearing an all over wash of the same colour. It's not a good look. Here are two swatches. On the left is the swatch and on the right is the product blended out.

The only nice things I can say about this product is that the product has a bit of a sheen to it which looks nice but I think that sheen is also what makes your eyeshadow look like crap after awhile. I also like the applicator. I am currently using an eyeshadow primer that comes out of a squeeze tube and that is just not the best. The strange thing is that the product looks thick in the picture above. How odd.

A regular sized tube is $19 U.S. or $24 Canadian for 0.1 oz.

**Update February 7, 2015: I tried wearing this on my lids today with nothing else and there was slight creasing after about 3 hours. I had to use two coats (as is suggested to layer coasts) to get any coverage. There was a sparkle to the finish but the product faded into almost nothing by the 5 hours mark.**
